Breaking with Transition: Decolonial and Postcolonial Perspectives in Eastern Europe
"Feminist Critique" Journal together with Balkan Society for Theory and Practice (BSTP) invites submissions for a special issue that focuses on decolonial and postcolonial perspectives on Eastern Europe. The objective of this special issue is to articulate decolonial and postcolonial theories as they emerge out of Eastern Europe.
We welcome papers that focus on decolonial and postcolonial feminism, queer studies, critical race theory, trans* studies, disability studies and anti-capitalist politics. We also welcome submissions that compare Latin American/Africana and Caribbean decolonial and postcolonial approaches to Eastern European emerging decolonial and postcolonial theories. We highly encourage submissions with a special emphasis on queer and feminist studies, political theory and practice to submit their work for consideration in this special issue. We welcome papers that investigate connections between race, gender, sexuality, religion, and class. We are open to all disciplines as long as submissions explore decolonial and postcolonial perspectives of post-socialist Balkan countries.
Topics and questions to consider may include, but are not limited to:
- What characterizes East European decolonial and postcolonial theory? How does Eastern European socialist past influence these theories?
- How does the status of European countries that are not EU members change the dominant conception of Europe and hence the distinction between West and East?
- What is the relationship between neo-colonialism and capitalist impositions in the Balkans?
- How does the history of racial and ethnic discrimination of Balkans by Western Europe inform the nature of political intervention in the region, which results in greater economic and socio-political devastation?
- How has transition politics and the “civilizing mission” of Europe foreclosed or opened up possibilities for non-heteronormative sexualities and/or gender expression in the Balkans?
- How has queer identity become politicized in the campaign to Europeanize the Balkans?
- What is the relationship between post-socialist sexuality, Islam, and homonationalism in Eastern Europe?
- What characterizes Islamophobia in Eastern Europe?
- Decolonizing transgender bodies in Eastern Europe;
- Transition politics and its relation to Eastern European socialist past and to present neoliberal policies;
- The history of feminism in Eastern Europe during and after socialism;
- The figure of the Balkan refugee and capitalist humanism;
Submission Deadline: September 30, 2018.
Submissions in both English and Albanian are accepted and all papers will be peer-reviewed. We encourage participants of the 2018 BSTP workshop to submit their papers for this special issue.

Revista "Feminist Critique" së bashku me Balkan Society for Theory and Practice (BSTP) ju fton të dorëzoni punime për një vëllim tematik qe përqëndrohet në qasjet dekoloniale dhe post-koloniale në Evropën Lindore. Qëllimi i këtij vëllimi është artikulimi i teorive dekoloniale dhe post-koloniale nga Evropa Lindore.
Mirëpresim punime që përqendrohen në feminizmin dekolonial dhe post-kolonial, teoritë queer, teori kritike te racës (critical race theory), studime mbi trans*, studime mbi paaftësinë si konstrukt social (disability studies), dhe politikat anti-kapitaliste. Mirëpresim gjithashtu punime që krahasojnë qasjet dekoloniale dhe post-koloniale të Amerikës Latine / Afrikës dhe Karaibeve me teoritë dekoloniale dhe post-koloniale të Evropës Lindore. Në veçanti inkurajojmë punime që fokusohen në studime mbi feminizmin dhe studimeve queer, teori dhe praktikë politike, për të paraqitur punën e tyre në shqyrtim me këtë vëllim tematik. Mirëpresim punime që hulumtojnë marrëdhëniet midis racës, gjinisë, seksualitetit, fesë dhe klasës. Jemi të hapur për të gjitha disiplinat nëse punimet shqyrtojnë qasjet dekoloniale dhe post-koloniale të vendeve post-socialiste te Ballkanit.
Temat dhe pyetjet e sugjeruara përfshijnë, midis të tjerave:
- Çka e karakterizon teorinë dekoloniale dhe post-koloniale të Evropës Lindore? Çfarë ndikimi ka e kaluara socialiste e Evropës Lindore në këto teori?
- Si e ndryshon konceptin dominues të Evropës statusi i vendeve evropiane që nuk janë anëtar të BE-së, dhe kështu dallimin mes Perëndimit dhe Lindjes?
- Cila është marrëdhënia ndërmjet neo-kolonializmit dhe imponimeve kapitaliste në Ballkan?
- Si e njofton natyrën e ndërhyrjes politike në rajon historia e diskriminimit racor dhe etnik e Ballkanit nga Evropa Perëndimore, e cila rezulton në një shkatërrim më të madh ekonomik dhe socio-politik të rajonit?
- Cili është ndikimi i politikës së tranzicionit dhe "misionit të qytetërimit" të Evropës në zhvillimin e seksualiteteve jo-heteronormative dhe/ose shprehjes gjinore në Ballkan?
- Si është politizuar identiteti queer në fushatën për të evropianizuar Ballkanin?
- Cila është marrëdhënia ndërmjet seksualitetit post-socialist, islamit dhe homonacionalizmit në Evropën Lindore?
- Çfarë e karakterizon islamofobinë në Evropën Lindore?
- Dekolonizimi i trupave transgjinorë në Evropën Lindore;
- Politika e tranzicionit dhe marrëdhënia me të kaluarën socialiste të Europës Lindore dhe politikës aktuale neoliberale;
